Center for Contemporary Art Futura: “Jednoho dne přijde den kdy den nepřijde / One day the day will come when the Day Will Not Come”

(10/8/2013 – 11/10/2013 + extended)

Futura is a rather hidden space aside from major travel routes in the city, in the backyard of a building in a residential area. The interior of the space is quite unique – a maze of underground cellars with exposed brick walls.

The show, curated by Milovan Farronato, was very scarce in the visual dimension. Text – present in the form of short stories by Adam Christensen spread throughout all exhibition spaces – and sound – present in the form of numerous sound installations: empty rooms with speakers – was prominently featured in the exhibition. The show was mainly about certain feelings of nostalgia and loss, in a specific context one could sense, but which was hard to grasp. I could feel something typical of Italian art, as well as of queer culture – I kind of decadent sensitivity. All this lead me to the conclusion that the whole concept heavily hinged on the personality of the curator. Knowing him seemed to be the key to the show, however, it was a hidden, inaccessible key. What one was left with was fragments, like pieces of memories, where one knows that they belonged together once, but has a hard time fitting them all together at present.
