MMCA Changdong: BARE_亮 [About Korea]

An exhibition organized by a Chinese curator-researcher Xia Yanguo visiting to MMCA. This was quite a rare and special occasion to see a ‘foreigner’ working with ‘Korean artists’, showing a very sensible attitude to the current issues that Korean society is dealing with. Xia used his own experience of living for a few months in Korea and invited Korean artists he became familiar with.

It was ‘interesting’ that this exhibition has never been publicly promoted by MMCA which hosted it. In some aspect, I found this show as one of the most politically daring at MMCA. All references were very subtle, yet they were identifiable even for me as an outsider and foreigner. This show deserved a much greater attention than it was given.
