A sculpture festival on one of the beaches of Busan: I only managed to visit the site after dark, but I still got at least some impression. It had been quite a broad range of works, from monumental figurative works to abstract structures or smaller works sheltered in a number of containers.

The part which I could see (the bigger size free standing works) were each very different and it was hard to make out some connection. However, the arrangement would probably be much more obvious during daytime.

Generally, I think there was a rationale for this project which made sense, and it managed to turn the beach into something else for a while once summer was over.

And no matter how good or bad, the very lowest bottom of taste has been already set by the Busan mayor that approved the construction of the “Sunset Fountain of Dreams” at the same beach.

As every visitor had to walk past that dreadful attack on all aesthetic sensibility in order to reach the beach, every artwork seen after that would actually look beautiful. So thanks God for the Sea Art Exhibition.

As an extra bonus, I managed to see the location where Sim Eunjung’s performance video “Red Sculpture” has been shot, an artwork exhibited at the 15th Seoul International New Media Festival.
