Part 2 of this year’s Real DMZ Project organized by Samuso/Art Sonje: All the artworks which have been previously exhibited on site in Cheorwon, have now been transported back into Art Sonje center for having a second life as museum exhibition artifacts.

As mentioned before, the location-specific installation of the artworks has been the most interesting part of the project. In Art Sonje, this context has been removed and instead a bland feeling of uncertainty shivered in the air…

In between the G/F and 2F, an Aernout Mik exhibition has been sandwiched in between, also loosely related to the DMZ project. Mik’s videos seem to be documentary, but strange reversals of roles take place in them: A scene of policemen overseeing refugees turns into a scene of refugees overseeing policemen, a pharmacy is revealed to have a muddy construction site floor and a DMZ picknick party turns into a soldier training exercise.

The floor devoted to Mik’s work was most strong, as the space allowed the works to unfold freely, unlike the remainder of the DMZ show where simply too many works of too different quality were crammed together.IMG_20151129_163142 IMG_20151129_170500 IMG_20151129_170521 IMG_20151129_171545

And Aernout Mik:
