The “Start Up” exhibition series is dedicated to the youngest generation of artists from Czech Republic. It takes place in one smallish room of the palace. Filipek’s sculptures strongly referenced the human body and its scale. They resembled furniture or objects from the urban environment designed to interact with bodies, e.g. railings.
In the center of the room was a human-scale sculpture of a male nude. In contrast to the slightly surrealist object-sculptures, the male nude looked stereotypical and out of place. It reminded me of those plaster casts that line the hallways at some fine arts schools, now moved over to a gallery and decorated with some brownish smudges.
